How to Select the Best Flooring for Every Room in Your Home

living room flooring

Some time back an Architect and I were trying to decide what type of flooring to use for an outdoor lounge area, and top of my head, I would have just picked tiles but he decided otherwise and said we should go for flamed granite. As at that time, I didn't know much about flamed granite, so I asked why flamed granite when we can easily do tiles because it just looks like floor tiles. And then he went on to explain the durability, lifespan, value for money, the foot traffic that is expected in that area etc.

When choosing a type of flooring for different rooms in your home or any area at all, there are a few key factors to consider in order to ensure that you make the best choice for your needs. These factors include durability, maintenance, style, and cost.

One of the most important considerations when choosing flooring is Durability. Different types of flooring have varying levels of durability, and it is important to choose a flooring option that can withstand the wear and tear of daily use in the specific room where it will be installed. For example, high-traffic areas such as hallways and entryways will require a more durable flooring option, such as ceramic tile or hardwood, while bedrooms and other less-trafficked areas may be able to accommodate softer and more delicate flooring options, such as carpet or cork.

Another important consideration is Maintenance. Some flooring options, such as hardwood or tile, require regular cleaning and maintenance in order to maintain their appearance and longevity. Other options, such as laminate or vinyl, are more low-maintenance and require less upkeep. Consider the amount of time and energy you are willing to devote to maintaining your flooring before deciding. Always stick with the simple low maintenance options, that way, you can always make sure your flooring looks its best.

Style is also an important factor to consider when choosing flooring. Different types of flooring offer different aesthetic options, and it is important to choose a flooring option that complements your home's overall design and style. For example, a traditional home may benefit from the warmth and natural beauty of hardwood flooring, while a modern home may be better suited to the sleek and contemporary look of tile or concrete or nice carpets.

Finally, the cost is also a consideration when choosing flooring. Different types of flooring have different price points, and it is important to choose a flooring option that fits within your budget. Keep in mind that while some flooring options may have a higher initial cost, they may also have a longer lifespan and require less maintenance in the long run, resulting in a more cost-effective choice in the long term. this was the case between the flamed granite and tiles I mentioned earlier. while flamed granite would have an initially higher cost than the tiles, in the long run, you would save money that could have ordinarily been spent on maintenance or even replacement of the tiles over the years.
